By the way hearing is about "pilot awareness" not whether we need autopilots. You can go back in time and look up aircraft accidents statistics and see how much more frequent were aircraft crashes when cockpits had very little automation. Nobody in his/her right mind would argue that air travel safety would improve if autopilots were removed.
