My ex-Britannia Vulcan captain taught me 2 useful bits of gen:
- Drift - Port Plus, Starboard Subtract
- Always have a bottle opener in your nav bag
I also had a cheapo modelling knife with break-off blades in my nav bag - handy for sharpening pencils etc. I'm sure it would deflate an errant dinghy with one quick swipe too. But possibly not much use for those roughty-tufty types who like to sport dinosaur-disembowelling survival knives...
