In my day they did and at 300+ Kts most of the way saw the FO working like a drovers dog.
Only sector more fun was Vanimo to Jayapura.
That was a 'Capt only' sector too... mainly because the Capt's couldn't keep up with the checklists and R/T workload if the FO flew!!
