There were a number of routes you suggested - here are my thoughts:
- Amsterdam and Aberdeen due to DTV closure - surely Newcastle and Leeds would inherit the spoils ? If Aberdeen or Amsterdam open at DSA, it has to be on its own merits and not because of a closure elsewhere.
- Edinburgh / London - no chance, the train service from Doncaster is just too fast and frequent in comparison. BA have recently opened Leeds-Heathrow for connectivity and Cityjet have plenty of bigger issues to deal with than thinking about a route to DSA
- Inverness - would guess that Leeds is more likely
- Copenhagen - unlikely at DSA any time soon as SAS have picked Humberside.
- Oslo - why would it work at DSA if it doesn't exist at Newcastle ?
- Iceland - this is an expensive country and will need a wealthy population if relying on Brits visiting Iceland on holiday. Probably not enough cash floating around Sheffield for the time being. Leeds is a stronger candidate.
- Romania - aim for Bucharest first and get good passenger numbers. Until then, places like Timisoara or Cluj are most unlikely.
- Faeroes - right now to the UK can only manage a seasonal route to Gatwick. If anything, Manchester or Scotland would come way before DSA
- Dubai, NYC or Orlando - I guess without dreamers, the world would be a poorer place.
- Italy - could perhaps see a charter to Verona / the Italian lakes or Naples working
- Czech / Hungary - these 2 countries are now wealthier than they were 10 years ago. Is there enough money and are there enough jobs in Yorkshire to attract the Czechs and Hungarians any more ?
- TNT / DHL - why would either company use DSA to a significant degree when there's a large cargo airport at East Midlands ?
