I agree the POH isn't the be all and end all. In the PA28 (owned by A and C) that I fly most often, I tried recently the POH engine start procedures instead of the ones I was taught as a student pilot.
Lo and behold... the engine doesn't start...
Back to what I was taught... fires every time.
