Check snopes . com for some realistic information on this. I was at a military museum last weekend, and there was a bowman trained in "longbow" usage. His commentary also included the fact that most "longbowmen" would use THREE fingers to draw the arrow. Modern-day bowmen trying to draw 180lb longbows also found that three fingers to be the best way of maintaining a 6-arrow-per-minute fire rate over sustained periods of time.
