UK appoints Aviation Minister who is anti-Heathrow expansion

Interesting article in the Independent about the newly-appointed Aviation Minister, Robert Goodwill, who has just replaced Simon Burns and who is on record as being hostile to the idea of expanding Heathrow.

'Three years ago Mr Goodwill, the Tory MP for Scarborough and Whitby, invited six Greenpeace activists to watch as he "twinned" his farm with the village of Sipson, which was threatened with destruction at the time.

He marked the occasion by planting an apple tree and said: "I am delighted the Conservative party and Greenpeace are working together in opposing the third runway at Heathrow."'

Hmmmm, twinning his farm with Sipson: daft and pathetic!

This is classic gesture politics of the most puerile kind, the sort formerly associated with the 1980s "loony left" [sic]. "Nuclear-free zones" anyone?

That is an astonishing decision to appoint Goodwill to that role.

How can someone so vehement to the industry, be promoted to Aviation Minister!
Regretably not as astonishing as perhaps it should be, wasn't Justine Greening (Con. Putney) a transport minister at one time? Her views were/are similar.

Underground. Only free if you have an Oyster card (any sort), with some money on it, to get in and out of the ticket barriers. System is programmed so if you go in one Heathrow station and out another, a fare of 0.00 is charged
Thanks for the info! Did not know this, probably along with many others!
