As I am the only one handling my hand baggage but my suitcase in being lifted by others this is nonsensical is it not?
Well not necessarily. Weight on an aircraft is not as simple as staying within the maximum limit. The positions of those weights throughout the aircraft are also extremely important in order for it to remain in balance during flight.
