Cork : Explaining the falling passenger numbers in August and September
Hi,
Indeed, it takes more than a couple of days of disruption to explain the declines in passengers in both August and September. Looking at the flight counts, there's been a decrease in flights by some airlines.
Comparing September 2013 to September 2012 shows that total flights were down by around 8%.
- Aer Lingus down 14% (nearly 3 movements per day: Loss of Gatwick and Rome, reduction on Brussels, increase on Barcelona)
- Aer Arann down 20% (3 movements per day: Reductions on Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh)
- Wizzair and Monarch down 100% (an average of 4 WZZ movements per day, less than 1 per day for Monarch)
- On the other hand, Ryanair were up 45% (roughly 5 movements per day) compared to last year and the Ryanair increase was equal to the number of flights lost from Wizzair and Monarch
