MEP rating required for airline job?

Hi guys

Im sure this has been covered before but I wanted to double check with the wider aviation community.

I am currently doing an ME/IR and I shall have enough cash to finish of the IR but not sit th MEP rating test. Will this affect my chances of getting an airline job? My CFI says I dont need to MEP rating for one, but I wanted to double check.
