I googled Colgan.....very interesting read. Appears to have been a real shambles and, sadly, emblematic of where the industry is today.
The cost cutting actions over the past twenty years have created some systemic problems within the industry......with no end in sight. Cutting corners to reduce pilot and training costs (for example, multi crew license as a laughable means by which to hire even less experienced pilots) have led us to a point where the public has begun to wonder if the pilots can even fly the planes!
It would appear that managers view pilots and fuel as the same commodities....squeeze, squeeze, squeeze.
