[QUOTE]..I.e do i do my PPL in the UK and don't bother with the UK ATPL exam and travel to Canada just with my PPL to start my CPL and work my way toward the canadian way of life ?
Am I right to think that I do not require ATPL in Canada to earn a living and the ATPL is for passenger flying on the bigger commercial airline ?
What advise would you give from start to finish on me arriving in Canada ?/QUOTE]

Before you can even *think* of working here, make sure that you can get a work permit..
I'd suspect that doing all of your licences here would be the cheapest. If you are going to get a CPL/IFR etc.. might as well start here with the whole thing... !!DON"T!! put any money up front (and a reputable place shouldn't ask you to..)

You won't need an ATPL for most entry-level jobs, however you'll need one (or either the IATRA or the SARON/SAMRA (Canadian ATPL exams) written) before you get on a 2 crew machine.

Good Luck!
