That suggests that trees were hit, which were not on the FAA survey list (and the FAA did not consider them tall enough to be a potential hazard). Has there been any announcement from NTSB about which part of the aircraft made tree contact ? The wide swath of trees makes me wonder if the leading edge of the wings were involved. The trees were sufficiently fragile as to give way against the forward momentum of the aircraft.

Anyone care to guess if the first impact noise on the CVR was the trees ?
