On the topic of requested flight plans, friend on flight to TPA which was delayed from departure from LGW said that the Capt.told them that to make up time he was given permission to go faster ( I know there is fuel cost involved) but is it normal for companies to specify speeds ( do ATC have to be consulted in advance) ?
