Testra have the best mobile coverage for GA in Australia.

Recently flew YMMB to Bankstown and had 3g/4g coverage all the way. Meant you could get weather from NAIPS and radar images from 128 km Melbourne Radar Loop all the way.

Cheap and cheerful and works pretty well.

I use an iPhone 5 with Ozrunways and find it's great.
