Seriously well thought out plan
Well Well Well ! The ipad has been certified for use in the flight deck by numerous Aviation Agencies worldwide and is permitted for use at all critical stages of flight. In most cases as the primary and only reference to charts and manuals .
But not here at CX. we have to rely on crappy charts with information scattered all over the place , no area charts , poorly depicted terrain data and taxi markings superimposed over a grey background, making it almost impossible to read at night. Don't believe me look at the taxi chart for PEK good luck reading that on a dark stormy night .
Me thinks, they don't want us getting used to a well proven system that works a treat, and in my opinion enhances flight safety. Because then we would naturally compare it to the upcoming release of the NEW and IMPROVED EFB and be very aware of its shortcomings.
Not that I am holding my breath for the release of the EFB
Just like the headsets over China ,this is another well thought out knee jerk reaction .
So if I should have an emergency situation and I don't have the time to get the charts from the NAV Bag or the airfield charts aren't available. But I can get them from my IPAD in seconds, I am not permitted to use them
I have a suggestion . Scrap the EFB, save yourself a ton of cash and configure the aircraft to take an Ipad, Company issue, so there is no problem with up to date information. It's not rocket science simply the 21st century
As for turning off all bluetooth devices, am I to assume that this also applies to the passengers . On any flight there are upward of at least 5 devices that have bluetooth enabled the entire flight . So from now on I must delay the departure until everyone has their bluetooth turned off to comply with the new ruling.
