Don't confuse notice with pay. You can give someone 5 minutes notice if you pay them out properly. I have no idea what is happening with SIA, but you can't take this piece of gossip negatively without understanding the whole picture.
Thailand is a cheaper place to fly that Australia, with more ILS equipped airports. Maybe they are moving somewhere like that?
