I have Telewest cable which has it's own independent fibre optic network, separate from BT. I know because the Telewest CEO was on working lunch (BBC2) last year explaining how much they have invested in and how it would take x number of years to recoup the investment costs. Their site confirms this:

Can't fault them for service - it's been 99.9% reliable for as long as I remember. And one key different I like is that the modem they provide you with belongs to them so if it breaks, they fix it, if you regular broadband modem breaks the onus
tends to be on you.
And they're got their usual half-price installation promotion at the moment - 25GBP!
