I think a bit more info may help, if they are benzo's (I use one for anxiety) there are usually options for less addictive drugs that are easier to change to then ween off of. The newer generation of sleep aid's eg: (Lunesta, Ambien) did not help me sleep at all and made me feel groggy. They may work for you.
I use a drug called Trazodone for sleep, origionally developed as an anti depressive it is now widely used for sleep, hardly addictive at all. After about 15 minutes I feel like it slows down the racing thoughts of my busy mind that hamper my ability to sleep, a bit of grog during the first few uses then I started to finally wake up after 6-8 hrs feeling pretty good.
