Are you insinuating that it is only MPA that had airworthiness 'bypassed', and that all other fleets are squeaky clean?
Quite the contrary, Duncs, and again apologies if anything I have said should even suggest that. Airworthiness wise, nothing is squeaky clean in UK Military Aviation, least of all the MAA. As tuc so knowledgeably informs us, airworthiness provision is a continuing process of audit by professionally trained personnel. Stop the auditing and replace the trained engineers with untrained equippers and it not only stops but is virtually unrecoverable. Not only did both happen but, just to gild the Lilly, the regulations that determine the entire procedure were pulped so that fingers could not be pointed at this gross non-compliance. The result is that not one aircraft or system in the military inventory can be called "airworthy" today. Those who say they are will either be those still in post who were involved in this sabotage or those who are uninformed or wish to uninform.
To recover from this mess requires an independent airworthiness authority and an independent air accident investigator. UK Military Aviation presently has neither, and that must be the first step on this thousand mile march to regain military airworthiness. That won't happen unless the RAF bites the bullet, faces up to what has happened, and names those VSOs who perpetrated and covered up this scandal.
