There is no real rules;

in low developed countries, like USA, where social protection is scarce and fix wages very low, people are working (or trying to) to the extra mile, and tipping is part of their salary. Handling fees and associated costs are lower than Europe, mainly because of low-cost manpower. so in the USA, 10/20/50$ is your parallel invoice for handling.

In under developed countries ( SAM, AFR) there is nothing, and even money is not always the best way to go, however Coke, magazines, t-shirts, even pencils are equally appreciated.

In the old Europe, the tip is only known because Americans are flying directly to this area and never realized that people are paid for their jobs ( high enough is a whole different story), but the invoice reflects this high cost in human power. And except in an EXCEPTIONAL service, (bringing a left behind bag at the aircraft in their personal car, after hours; solving the diaper issue that the catering company was unable to do, or finding the so much appreciated "Quality street" toffees.... The rest..well no tips...

Far East, well, you can try....but the level will not move one inch (up or down) (from my experience)

Middle East.......are they doing something ? it is a parallel economy in itself, or wait in line, when they have time for you..

Any experience by airport / handler is welcomed and appreciated !!
