Crown @ Castle Orford

Orford is a delightful little unspoilt coastal village. If you want a Cafe Nero or Pizza Express, this isn't for you.

The Crown and Castle, operated by 'Hotel Inspector' Ruth Watson, is a gem. Our room was one of the brand new Garden Rooms and was superb, as was our evening meal and breakfast. Prices were good too.

A stroll down to the harbour was most enjoyable.

The hotel doesnt have its own helipad but does have a close relationship with a mega-friendly farmer who actually delivered us to the door of the hotel despite a 10-minute only walk.

He wouldn't take any money but I did give him a whizz round in the R44, over the fascinating Orford Ness ( Google search to check out its history). I asked him if he would accept £20 from other visiting pilots in the future and he told me that would be perfectly fine.
