Actually there is a reason for the name change.
The story goes like this: Shk Mo got a call from the Boss in Abu Dhabi who said that the upcoming SALIK-scheme on the Emirates road was not allowed, since Dubai should not profit on the trans-emirate traffic from the capital to Sharja and the other Emirates. The Idea of the Emirates-road was to connect the emirates with an efficient highway and not to create a cash cow for Dubai.
So Mo just swapped some names around and voilá, and as you can see, just shortly after the name change the "weregonnatakeyourmoney-signs" and salik-cam-portals are already up on the "Shk Mohammed bin Zayed Highway", aka the Old Emirates road...
