FDT and training

I have a practical question regarding FDT and extended rest after recurrent. Any input appreciated.

Situation-we are at FSI in US.

2 days class, 2 days sim and then a check ride on a Friday. Due to late check ride, we have scheduled return flight for Saturday evening, getting us back in the morning on Sunday....let's say 9:00 local.

We have a charter request for Monday at 9, so 24 hours later. The flight is a 2 hour leg and I said fine. My FO on the other hand, is saying that "we have been on duty for all our travel days and classroom days, and so we need two nights of local rest and 36 hours extended rest before we can fly."

This seems unnecessary and unreasonable vis a vis our company. We have a night here, we have a day off here, a night flight and then a whole 24 hours again to prepare for a two hour flight.

Inputs, of a regulatory interpretive nature, please.

Thanks!
