freespeachplease!..........there's no such thing as a hardship allowance within BA mainline either.....I should know I've been on long haul with BA for 9 years..
We aren't paid hourly when downroute, but are paid meal allowances according to cost of food in hotels/cost of living & these varied according to country visited. Yes, ALA & BAK were good payers, but take into account that a cup of coffee in the ALA Hyatt cost US$6.50 at the time & that the food outside the hotel was pretty dire & just as expensive. On the opposite end of the scale.....when Harare was at LGW we just about scraped £7 a day!! Roll on 24 hour flight pay!!
