The 757 being used on SFB would be a very last resort, but you try subbing in a wide body a/c or 2 in the current economic climate!! basically the days of Air Atlanta/ATA etc are long gone very few airlines have aircraft available for short term work & until Boeing give a more accurate timeline for the 787 Thomson will work on a month by month basis, the full l/h programme doesn't kick in until June & their sister companies in Europe should have some spare capacity to help out in May/June as they have a much shorter season. A lot of this speculation really doesn't help, Thomson customers have booked a holiday which includes the flight & am confident that's exactly what will happen and will offer the best available alternative (in the current market) that is available. Only 2 of the 4 787 were planned to operate l/h this summer to allow more pilot training on s/h so the impact may be a lot less than people think.
