Let's not make assumptions.

A350 is progressing, 787 debacle is manna from heaven for someone who is already late for the party.

787 grounding and the subsequent investigation have serious implications for Boeing, their whole design/business model in particular is being heavily criticised.
My view is that Boeing went a little too far outside their comfort zone as regards technological innovation on the 787.
This view has also been bolstered by Boeing's own hype (and the pro-USA aviation media) on the 787 pre-introduction, Airbus's marketing on the A350 is more logical progression than quantum leap.

Difficult to see this not impacting sales at a time when Boeing need to re-establish themselves, unless the 787 starts delivering - Boeing's next plane might be an if as opposed to a when.
