I'm sorry to hear that you didn't make the cut. I do applaud you for your proactiveness though!

With regards to flight training, I agree with Pilot852 in saying that Hong Kong isn't ideal when learning to fly fixed wing. The aerodrome in use is subject to the PLA's discretion, and the license obtained would be issued from the toothless HKCAD. Costs are prohibitive too.

If open to suggestions, the Philippines - Angeles Flying Club could be the place to get started. Although they primarily focus on microlight aircraft, it's cheap and it's flying none the less.

It's great to hear that you're heading to NZ to gain experience. I myself previously attended Air Hawkes Bay during the summer of 2012.

My experience with AHB was not completely unpleasant, but I encourage you to consider Hawkes Bay & East Coast Aero Club. This aero-club owns AHB and operate under the same roof (AHB is the subsidiary primarily aimed towards teaching NZ's diploma in aviation).
The most important factor is that they're cheaper! Feel free to PM me.
