Space shuttle wiring

Last weeks tragic accident reminded me a little about other in-flight fires that have occoured in the past few years that have been thought to be due to arcing of the wiring looms where the Kapton insulation had become brittle and fallen off, thought to lead to arcing and fires.

The way they described the way sensors started tripping off, and temperature rise etc could be attributed heating of a loom changing resistance levels, and eventually an open circuit. An internal wing fire could lead to a significant structural failure.

Any idea what insulation is used on the space shuttle, Kapton would be about the right vintage ?

Condolances to all of the NASA family that have been affected by this tragic accident.
