Why should the British government fund flight training when there is no significant shortage of people who are qualified or who are training at present?
Going back to pie in the sky's point about other countries funding flight training. Take your average 'government' owned flag carrier from a developing country. I presume in these cases if the government did not help fund candidates then some 3rd world airlines would find themselves with no flag carrier due to no pilots!
