Air France-KLM said Monday there was no truth in an Italian newspaper story that the Franco-Dutch carrier was in talks to take over Alitalia.
“We confirm that there are zero negotiations on the subject of purchasing Alitalia,” an Air France spokeswoman confirmed to ATW in Paris.
An unsourced report in Sunday’s Italian newspaper Il Messaggero said that Air France-KLM, which already holds a stake in Alitalia’s parent company CAI, was in “advanced” talks to buy the whole of Alitalia by the summer.
CAI is a consortium of investors that bought the then-bankrupt Italian flag carrier in 2008.
Air France CEO Alexandre de Juniac also confirmed the company is not in takeover talks at a Monday press conference. “I should say that our resources for such operations are extremely limited," Reuters quoted him as saying.
