Truth is I got away lightly with a short tenure compared to some of my predecessors as the file I was given was quite thick and, pardon the pun, somewhat dog-eared!
It sounds a bit like the 'NEAF Flying Instructions' file which existed on 35 Sqn just before my time in the early 1970s. Their boss, known as 'BFP' (which did
not stand for Bomb Fix Point....) kept asking to see the file, but it was always signed out to someone who was away on leave or detachment.
It took a while before BFP realised what the 'NFI' file actually was - and he was less than impressed, I gather...
The Per Ardua beagle pack had a strong following at Cranners in Flt Cdt days. As one chum once put it "You can either follow the little buggers on foot, watch them from the top of a hill as they scamper about - or simply sit in a pub and think about them!".
