You probably noticed some warm gear box oil vapor being vented overboard via the engine
drains.
It is normal for gear boxes to generate oil vapor which must be vented else excess pressure will build up.
There are methods of measuring an acceptable leakage rate from the engine gear box, hydraulic actuators (for reverse thrust), fuel shut off valves etc, all of which are drained overboard.
