You can't really study for this like a degree and try and absorb everything and then take the exams; the questions are so poorly written, often translated from another language, that unless you have seen some of them before you don't stand a reasonable chance of getting the expected 95%+ average.
Completely agree with this. I have a mate who did some of his subjects by pure book-learning. The first stage of the exams took him over a year to study for (he was holding down a full time job while studying). I think he got 100% in most of these subjects but this required more effort spent on stage 1 than most people spend on the entire course. Then he discovered the questionbanks and polished the remaining exams off in about 6 months.

Certain subjects do need more learning and understanding than others e.g. Met., but you still need the questionbanks in addition to the study because of the dreadful drafting of the questions.

Subjects like Air Law and Ops just require rote-learning and the questionbanks are an exceptionally boring, but effective way to do this.

I actually wish they didn't do multi-choice exams as having to learn the subjects properly would be much more satisfying.
