Quote: “Mr Narey says Newcastle and Durham Tees Valley airports schould close and be replaced with a new facility built between the two.”

Would be interested what the two airport owners have to say about this! and the airlines and pax for that matter.

It’s the same old nonsense trotted out by the supporters of a Thames estuary airport when they state that Heathrow “will be closed” (and also Southend and Manston because of the proximity, but that remains unmentioned).

Does sound like yet another vanity project, yawn.

Quote: ““If you stuck a pin in the map and drew a 20-mile radius around it, you would take in 90 per cent of the North-East conurbation,” he said.”

He mentions THE North East conurbation, which one is he referring to: the one around Newcastle or the one around Middlesbrough? There are two conurbations and each has an airport, fairly standard and simple really.

Quote: “He said: “There are business people from Tees Valley who prefer to go to Leeds/Bradford or even Manchester.

A new airport in the centre of the region will grab that business.

Any evidence? Doubt if it’s actually a preference, it’s probably because they can’t go very far from Middlesbrough-Teesside any more!

Quote: “It's a complete non-starter. If there's to be a single airport in the North East it will be a result of Durham Tees Valley closing and Newcastle continuing on its present site.”

Regretably, this is probably the case. Let’s hope is doesn’t come to that.
