The number of EMB rated Kenyans shouldn't be high, given that, it seems it's KQ alone who fly EMBs in East Africa (although I think I saw a photo of a 170/175 in Fly 540 colours somewhere). And since EMB rated pilots is what they want, they can't afford to be choosy about nationality, otherwise, they should be ready to foot type rating bills for Kenyans.
Then again, Kenyan pilots could get the rating themselves. But what was the point going all the way to Ghana to advertize if they wanted only local pilots?
The choice of a Ghanaian newspaper to source for rated pilots seems logical, as Ghanaian pilots are known to have flown the EMB190s of bankrupt Nigerian carrier, Air Nigeria.
Ultimately, I think you should give it a shot; don't let the fear of nationality hold you back. It's likely to be not a problem. Good luck!
