The GE36 UDF set a record for TSFC - but with substantial risks in terms of the counter-rotating LPT, variable-pitch fan blades, and noise issues. By the time the engine was ready to be marketed, fuel prices had retreated and airlines were reluctant to dip their toes into that risk pool. Better the devil you know...
