PS - yes they are for seperate periods of Afghan service...
At the risk of being vilified for answering a question posed - I'm afraid that it doesn't. The official line in the JSP is that there is no permission to accept or wear the NATO Afghanistan medal with ISAF clasp (JSP761 Chapter 8 Annex A). This line is subtly different to the one given in the response to a letter in Soldier Magazine (Sep 09) that appears to permit the medal to be accepted:
Lt Col (Retd) Peter Lockyer, Medal Office, writes: The Non-Article 5 Isaf medal is a commemorative keepsake. It is not to be worn either on Service dress or mess kit.
The wearing of non-article 5 medals is not new. The NATO Balkans non-article 5 medal (that replaced previous 3 NATO Balkans medals on 1 Jan 03) was authorised to be accepted and worn (JSP761 Chapter 8 Annex A; DCI
JS 125/03; DCI
JS 85/04).
