Very upbeat interview on todays' Evening Echo with new Cork Airport Director Neil McCarthy. In it he states that costs of running Cork are higher than many similar airports in the U.K. He hopes the airport will return to growth in 2013 and to profit shortly afterwards. He also says that Cork hopes to secure a transatlantic service by 2015. I'm not sure what's so significant about the year 2015. He's quoted as saying that a charter series might work sand that this could pave the way for a scheduled service.

I wish Neil McCarthy the very best but the strategy of launching a Charter series to the U.S was tried on three occasions in the last decade and it failed each time. The only charters on the Atlantic nowadays are for the U.S. Military so hopefully we won't have to endure another aborted effort.
