My opinion only,
It's a tough call, but remember most of the new S/O's haven't thought about this situation at all, nor will many in the future. That means that there will always be enough taking up the cadetship, ensuring it is popular and ensuring that people like you, who are waiting for a better deal, miss the boat. The current influx has ensured that no better contract needs to be offered.
If you can afford to, go for it.
