Further proof of competence from the GoI:

Wait for Dreamliner for Air India gets longer as govt fails to agree upon compensation

New Delhi: The wait for Air India to get the first three of the 27 B787 or Dreamliners from US-based aircraft manufacturer Boeing is getting longer each day as the government has not yet approved the monetary compensation that the plane maker needs to give to the national carrier for delaying delivery by over four years.

"Three B787s are ready to be delivered but we are not getting any clarity from the Indian government," Dinesh Keskar, Boeing's senior vice-president for Asia-Pacific and India said at the release of Boeing's market outlook.

The monetary compensation, which is the part of the contract between the two parties, has been approved by the Cabinet but is waiting for a final approval by the law ministry.

"We have been requesting the government to hasten the approval because B787 induction is part of our turnaround plan and would be a game changer for our balance sheet," Air India CMD Rohit Nandan told ET.

The planes were to come in May initially and then the delivery date was fixed for the first week of August, but the Air India team is still waiting in the US for the past three weeks to get a green signal to fly the much-awaited machine to India. Meanwhile, Boeing raised its forecast for the Indian aviation market Tuesday, saying the country would need 1,450 new planes worth $175 billion by 2031.
