I'm ex SA - been here 2 years. Have Canadian ATPL (and valid SA comm). Currenly work in construction - thanks to 911 - but will hopefully be flying next month pending a clearance from the US DOJ to do the required conversions - the joys of a SA passport.
The flying here is amazing. Everything works, and the Transport Canada official who delt with my licence conversion apologised personally because they are no longer able to give credit for SA licences - I needed to redo everything - writtens and flight tests. Something to do with a pilot licence scam in South Africa?????
Gr8 country, friendly people, and lousy (and *%$### expensive) wine! Take a bottle of KWV from the local "wine store" and you are an instant celeb at the party (for pricely sum of R100). - SA still has some good points.
