Some may disagree, but in commonly understood terminology autotrim is not automation in the classic sense because it does not determine flightpath independently. Instead it is slaved to the control inputs of the autopilot or the human pilot depending on which is in control.

You know that in the closed loop with feedback like the autotrim system, in automation we use to say (in french) : "on pilote
l'erreur" said in common but acurate language "the input is not the human command, but the difference between the command and the output", and that input is not human but computed.
So I suggest to use here in PPRuNe the word "automation" for the autotrim, which is more similar from the common sense from "stupid" pilots !!!
