Pax: Why can't anyone do anything about the fog?
Me: *long pause* "I'm sorry, are you actually being serious?"
The pax then realised what they had actually said.

Logical actually! If aircraft can land in thick fog why can't they take off? All you need to do is align the plane with radar, point the wheels in the straight ahead position and shove the throttles !
