Looks like you have cracked it..
If that's the one, it sounds like it could have been a holiday adventure that went horribly wrong - 3 young men (oldest was 24 if I remember correctly) killed on a pleasure flight near Great Yarmouth and laid to rest in Birmingham..
Very sad indeed.
