Hi,

If you tea this;

http://easa.europa.eu/agency-measure...bin%20crew.pdf

(around page 26) we have what appears to be the EASA line on LASIK.

The question is interpretation of the wording. The CAA don't seem to know and neither does my AME.

To quote the document;

(i) Eye surgery

The assessment after eye surgery should include an ophthalmological examination.

(1) After refractive surgery, a fit assessment may be considered, provided that:

(i) pre-operative refraction was not greater than +5 dioptres;

(ii) post-operative stability of refraction has been achieved (less than 0.75 dioptres variation diurnally);

(iii) examination of the eye shows no post-operative complications;

(iv) glare sensitivity is within normal standards;

(v) mesopic contrast sensitivity is not impaired;

(vi) review is undertaken by an eye specialist.

Now for me like this line;

After refractive surgery, a fit assessment may be considered, provided that:

If for example you read the paragraphs below this one regarding other eye surgery, they all clearly state the procedure in question creates an unfit situation, a time period and process to take place before the medical would be re-issued. Given that, it would appear to me that LASIK treatment under EASA does not make you unfit, as long as you meet the criteria listed. However, it is to me ambiguous, and may just not contain the full detail.

So CAA don't seen to know, AME's don't seem to know. Anyone shed any light on it??
