Archer, if 800 pilots leave (that's 25% of the list) the new dude would get a seat on the last delivery. This does not take into account any more DECs. If HR are to be believed, rates of people leaving has slowed a lot in the last few years. We even have people rejoining as DECs.
This is all calculated guess. But best you plan on the worse case, and be pleased if things improve, rather than be disappointed when things don't happen, as happens often here.
We were told the cap on the fleet number was due to capacity at DXB.

Wings, in March 2007 the EK pax fleet was 91 aircraft. It has doubled now. Hence command were quicker. I have received a PM stating that the 280 aircraft is for 2020 in stead of 2025 as I stated above. The new joiner now would need a fleet size of 340 to 360 to get a command if history for command time was to repeat.
