A very late (a quarter of a century...) but great step has been made by the BEA, as they wrote at different moments of the final report about the PIO that Machinbird pointed (and mm43 pointed it very positively in the report).So BEA accepts now the idea that pilots are directly confronted to the dynamic system and not via the automation.
Then they have to manage it, to learn it. That is new, wise and safe.

Please, Machinbird, could you tell us the five possibilities to enter in that PIO who was in continuity with the "aparent neutral static stability" -did anybody find the exact definition ?) ?
