Am thinking back to the Ansett 747? that was enroute to Perth with heavy fog
at Perth and went beyond the point of no return from the East Coast with nowhere
to land at Perth due to the fog. :





Ansett never operated the B747 to Perth. Also, the fuel policy for that type was to always carry fuel for an alternate
