Crash investigators are to examine the wreckage of a helicopter today, in which the pilot was killed.
Gisborne police say the 52-year-old man died at the scene yesterday afternoon, in bush at Motu, southeast of Opotiki.
He was the only person on board.
The Iroquois belonged to an Auckland company.
It lost control after completing a drop-off of logs, crashing into a culvert and catching fire.
The Civil Aviation Authority is to carry out an investigation into the crash.
